Panic Disorder

Introduction:

Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder. It causes panic attacks, which are sudden feelings of terror for no reason. You may also feel physical symptoms, such as chest pain, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, and fast heart beat. Panic attacks are discrete episodes of paroxysmal severe anxiety.

A panic attack starts abruptly, reaches maximum intensity within few minutes and lasts for at least several minutes. Panic attacks can happen anytime, anywhere and without warning.

The person lives in fear of another attack and escapes rapidly from the situation where the attack occurred. For some people, fear takes over their lives and they cannot leave their homes.
Panic disorder is more common in women than men.

Sometimes a lot of stress leads to panic attacks. Most people get better with treatment. Therapy can show you how to recognize and change your thinking patterns before they lead to panic. Medicines also help in treating the panic attacks.

Cause: The exact cause is not known. Some of the probable causes are
  • Heredity
  • Stress
  • Cigarette smoking increases the risk of panic attacks.
  • It is believed your body's natural fight-or-flight response to danger is involved. For example, if there is some danger approaching, your body would react instinctively. Heart rate and breathing would speed up as your body readied itself for a life-threatening situation. Many of the same reactions occur in a panic attack. No obvious stressor is present, but something trips body's alarm system.

Signs and Symptoms· Trembling
· Sweating
· Fast heartbeat
· Chest pain
· Breathing difficulty
· Dizziness
· Hot flushes
· Nausea
· Abdominal cramping
· Headache
· Faintness
· Tightness in your throat
· Trouble swallowing
· Fear of death
Other health problems such as an impending heart attack, an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or drug withdrawal can cause similar signs and symptoms.
People, who experience panic attacks often are affected by other mental health conditions, including depression, fear etc.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made on the basis of signs and symptoms, how often they occur and in what situations they occur.
A complete physical examination is carried out by doctor so that your doctor can determine whether health conditions other than panic attacks are the cause of your symptoms.
These other health conditions might or an overactive thyroid or heart disease. If there are no underlying health problems, doctors diagnose panic disorder based on your signs and symptoms and their frequency.
Complications
Panic disorder can make people avoid the places where the attacks occurred or leave the house alone. In children, panic attacks can interfere in child's school life.
Panic disorder also increases your risk of depression and suicide.
Treatment
With medications the prognosis is good and people are eventually able to resume everyday activities.
Homeopathic Management
Homeopathy is highly effective in treating Panic disorder. After administering homeopathic medicines you will experience less panic attacks and later you will realize that you no longer have panic attacks.
Homeopathic medicines correct the imbalance which has taken place in the body mentally and physically. You will experience a feeling of general well being; calmness and your overall energy will improve.

Molluscum Contagiosum

Introduction
This is a skin infection which occurs only in human beings. An increased incidence is seen in the patients infected with HIV.

Definition
This is a mild viral infection of the skin, characterized by papule (firm bumps) formations on the skin, which resolve spontaneously over a period of several weeks to years.

Causes and risk factors
The causative organism is a kind of the pox virus.
The following factors increase the risk of acquiring the infection:
  • In patients infected with HIV virus.
  • If there is a direct contact with the persons already affected with this infection.
Genital molluscum can be transmitted by sexual contact with the affected person.
Any other systemic disorder in which the immune system of the body is hampered.

Screening and diagnosisThe skin lesions appear after a period of about 14-50 days after coming in contact with the infected person.
  • A rash consisting of shiny, pearly white, waxy, hemispherical papules (eruptions which are elevated from the remaining skin surface) are the classical lesions of molluscum.
  • These papules are dimpled and are filled with a cheesy material.
  • These lesions are multiple and painless.
  • The lesions may appear anywhere on the body sparing the palms and soles; but, face and trunk are most commonly involved.
  • Sexually acquired lesions are seen on the lower abdomen, in the groin, the genitals and on the upper thighs.
The lesions remain for a period of many weeks to 2 years and then resolve spontaneously.

Diagnosis:The classical lesions of molluscum themselves are diagnostic of the infection. This can be confirmed by detection of typical pox virus like particles from the lesion, on electron microscopy.

TreatmentSome lesions may heal spontaneously and require no therapy.

    Homoeopathic treatment
In homoeopathy, we give constitutional medicines which will not act on the individual lesions; neither will they act only on the infected skin.Infact these medicines act on the patient as a whole, enhance his immunity and help his body to fight against the infection.
Hence, the infection is removed from its roots.
As the immunity is increased by our medicines, recurrences are mostly not seen.

Role of Homeopathy in Acne

Written by Dr. Santosh Joshi Classical Homeopath

What to expect during the Homeopathic acne treatment?

Homeopathy has a range of natural and effective remedies that offer a solution to the acne. During the treatment you will notice that your quality of sleep improves, you feel fresh and energetic.

Then the acne will start drying up and in the next step the number of acne will reduce and also the intensity of the acne will come down. During the course of treatment little new acne will also come till the time the treatment is not completely over. The other associated symptoms like, pain burning will go away.

Acne should not be treated with external applications because the cause is an internal disorder. If you try to treat the acne by external applications there are chances that you might suppress the disease and this is not good for the overall health of the individual.

How Homeopathic treatment works?Homeopathic treatment is an individualized form of treatment. So the disease picture expressed by each individual will have its own characteristic symptoms besides the symptoms of the disease.

For e.g. If two individuals are suffering from acne, One individual gets depressed due to the appearance of the acne on the face; she becomes very conscious about it. While on the other hand the other individual is pretty ok with the acne and it doesn’t affect her at all.

Here we see two individuals responding to the same disease in a different way. One is getting depressed while the other is not bothered at all. The individual response will be very important in selecting the right Homeopathic remedies.

Your Homeopath takes into consideration mans illness not in one part as being sick; but he considers the manifestation of illness in one part in its relation to the whole man. So the medicine selected is the one that suits the constitution of the patient.

Homeopathic Remedies acts at the level of Psycho neuro endocrinal axis and it helps the body to bring back the imbalance to a balanced state of health.

Excess secretion at any place is controlled by the feedback system in the body. Homeopathic remedy only gives stimulus to the internal mechanism of the body in a diseased state this is known as Primary action. Then the body takes control to bring back the imbalance in a diseased state to a state of health. This is known as secondary action.

The factors that contribute to the formation of acne mostly are over production of oil (Sebum), irritation caused to the hair follicles due to irregular shedding of the dead skin and the bacteria that comes into play. The homeopathic remedies will help in bringing back the over production of the sebum to the normal level by stimulating the bodies internal mechanism. It will also bring back the hormonal imbalance to a normal level. This in turn will resolve the acne.

In Homeopathy a deeper look is taken into the subtle and complex burden that we carry with us from our hereditary tendencies. The Homeopathic remedy act at a deep level and helps to relieve the individual of these tendencies as much as possible. It also helps in building the immunity of the person to ward off further disease.

They remove such a tendency of your skin to acne formation, thus chances of recurrence after the homoeopathic treatment are minimal.

Homeopathic medication
The following is the line of action in a Homeopathic treatment

• Constitutional remedy
• Acute remedy
• Intercurrent remedy

The Constitutional remedy: It is the remedy that is selected after careful analysis and evaluation of the symptoms. The constitutional remedy is the one which helps in achieving cure. This is the remedy that is repeated mostly infrequently as it is needed to bring back the imbalance in a body to the normal balance.

Homoeopathic constitutional medicines are prescribed not only on the basis of the signs and symptoms, but also according to your physical and mental make up. Thus, they affect your entire body and not only your skin

That’s the reason why we ask so many questions about the nature, emotions, fear etc to define the individuality of the person.

The Acute remedy: During the acute episode of the disease we need to give the acute remedy to relieve the acute condition. The acute remedy is selected from the symptom totality during the acute phase of the disease.

The Intercurrent remedy: Sometimes during the course of treatment we find that there is no further improvement in the case. The case has come to a standstill in such cases the Intercurrent remedy is used. In other words it helps in removing the blocks that hamper the further improvement.

Pre menstrual tension state

It is a state in which some women suffer from irritability, anger at trifles, mood swings, lassitude, sleeplessness, headache, nausea, constipation, bloating of the body (edema).Breast become painful, lumpy and tender. These symptoms are observed before 7-8 days prior to the menstrual cycle in some women. These symptoms are relieved after the onset of the menstrual flow.
Causation
The exact cause is unknown. In some women there is excess of salt water retention which is commonly expressed by the patient as bloating of the body. This is considered to be due t some hormonal imbalance. The condition is considered to be of psychosomatic nature.
Treatment
The lady is provided with adequate rest, proper diet should be given. The patient should do yoga which will help the patient.
Role of Homeopathy
Homeopathy can be the answer to your long standing PMS symptoms. Have you ever wondered how you can get rid of the PMS symptoms which you have to bear every month?
Homeopathy provides the solution for your PMS symptoms for which you have to give the complete case history. We have to understand the minutest details of your Mind, Body and the spiritual side of your being.
You may wonder how these details are going to help. As we are well aware that our body works as a unit; when we are in a diseased state we say “Iam not feeling well” do we say? “My Lungs are sick or my liver is sick”; the answer is “No”. So the medicine which is given should be based on considering how your constitution is and according to it you should get the medicine. That is exactly how homeopathy works we take into consideration all the aspects of your constitution and then prescribe the medicine.
Let us consider this case of lady it was a case of Bronchial asthma which the patient was suffering from many years. Now you might be thinking what is link between PMS and asthma please read the case further. We took the case in details and after analysis and evaluation gave her the constitutional remedy. The patient reported at the follow up that she was feeling much better over all.
We asked her in what way you felt better? She said her asthmatic attacks were better. The interesting part she told later she said doctor I used to have tremendous suicidal thoughts, Anger without any reason she used to fight with her husband for no reason, there was heaviness in the breast and causeless weeping before her menstrual cycle. She said all these symptoms have disappeared and I have not told you about these symptoms during my case history. Then how is it that they have disappeared is it because of the medicines for asthma?
This is the beauty of homeopathy we explained her that when we give the constitutional medicine it just sets the imbalanced state of the person into a balanced and harmonious state as it was when she was in a healthy state. It does so as the Homeopathic medicines act at the Psycho neuro endocrinal axis. Once the imbalance is corrected all the other functions get back to their harmonious state. So even if you forget to tell certain symptoms those issues will also be taken care of; so please give all the details even the stupidest thing might help in coming to the right medicine.
We are interested in knowing what makes you different from others so we can find the right constitutional medicine. Homeopathic medicines are non toxic, effective, evidence based and safe medicines which act in a rapid and gentle way. We are committed in bringing health to you and making a healthy harmonious world.
